What to expect
How it works
Each image is decoded into a canvas and initially limited by the chosen maximum long edge. The tool tests WebP and JPEG quality values between 4% and 96%. If even the lowest tested quality is too large, it scales both dimensions down and tries again, returning the highest tested quality that stays within the byte target.

- A very small target may be impossible without reducing an image below a useful size; the process stops and asks for a larger target rather than exceeding it.
- Compression is a new pixel encoding, so animation, EXIF data, embedded color profiles, and previously discarded image detail are not preserved.
